Pre-Nuptials in Ireland?

It was with surprise that i read that Irish farmers want to get pre-nups before they get married in order for the safeguard of the family farm. Maybe it’s a good idea in that it will keep the farm in one piece, but does it not mean that you do not trust your partner before you get into a relationship?

The survey carried out at the National Ploughing Championships saw about two thirds of men thinking they were a good idea, but the majority of women being insulted by the thought.

Personally, I wonder how, if the shoe was on the other foot, and the woman was coming into the relationship with all the assets how she would feel about the topic then? We guys wonder sometimes about what drives a woman into a relationship … and how many of them only see the value of the man she’s chasing. (It should be noted that most farmers are time and cash poor, but asset rich … most being multimillionaires on paper due to the huge rise in the value of land in the last 15 years).

Actually, I thought that prenuptials held no legal power in this country. Maybe I am wrong. Because it states somewhere … in our constitution but maybe not … that there are defined percentages of what goes to the wife/children etc etc. So put to a legal challenge, the pre-nup will probably fall apart. (I could be wrong, but that’s what i think anyway

Anyway, you can read more about it here:
